The Dieppe Raid was one of the biggest disasters in Canadian military history. In 1942, the Canadian government placed pressure on the Allied leadership to increase the role of Canada's frontline forces. This would help maintain public support and justify the need for mobilization. Lord Louis Mountbatten led the strategic planning of Operation Jubilee. It was an audacious attempt to test landing strategies, knock out the German-occupied port of Dieppe in France, and secure key intelligence. 5000
