On this day in 1942, the Allies launched a major raid on the French coastal port of Dieppe. “Operation Jubilee” was the Canadian Army’s first involvement in the fight against Hitler's Nazi-Occupied Europe. The raid was considered to be a disaster for the Canadians with more than 900 soldiers killed, and thousands wounded or taken prisoner.
